John Haro Press Release

Opening Reception: Thursday, February 6th (6 - 9pm)

Exhibition Dates: February 3 – February 17, 2020

Townley Gallery
373 Broadway
New York, NY 10013

January 27, 2020

For Immediate Release:

Townley Gallery is pleased to present John Haro, a solo exhibition of nearly twenty new works by Armenian-American visual artist John Haro. Works comprising the show are drawn from the artist’s most recent body of oil paintings. According to the artist, the work in the series “focuses on the soul of the painting—the cornerstone that a painting is built upon. And while it still confers beauty, it’s not fully beautified.” As such, the exhibition will primarily focus on themes of spirituality and the role of the artist as intercessor. Through abbreviated forms, cascading veils of paint, and strong figurative contours, Haro suggests content and narrative, but does not lead viewers directly on a narrative journey, or to any one conclusion. Instead, he uses loose painterly gestures to appeal broadly to spectators while hinting at larger natural forces and a realm of mysticism. The exhibition will open to the public on Monday, February 3rd with a reception on Thursday, February 6th from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The show will remain on view until the Monday, February 17 . Visitors may see works during regular gallery hours: Monday through Sunday, 7:00am to 7:00pm.

About the Artist

John Haro is an Armenian-American artist born in 1976. He has been living in the United States since 1988, and in New York since 2000. Haro’s work is founded on a spiritual practice rooted in the autodidactic and primeval character of the first artists: subconsciously direct and enduring. His art has been included in numerous group exhibitions in New York over the past two decades.
